SATURDAY - Market Day: Ismaylovo

SATURDAY - Bill and Suzie took us to a GIANT outdoor market today. Did I tell you Russian's are cool about winter? Awesome.

Modeled on the layout and look of an old Russian fortress village, Ismaylovo is filled with just the sort of things a couple tourists (well, me especially) are looking to take home to remember their trip. Elegant Faberge-styled eggs, woodcarvings, matroyshka nesting dolls, ornately-carved or painted handmade wooden boxes, art work, icons, painted wooden eggs, beautiful china, antiques, clothing, toys, hats, wonderful food, and Russian military gear and memorabilia. As a shopper... I was blown away... They practically had to drag me out of there.

The day was unseasonably warm (about 31) but when you're mostly standing around, the cold really starts to creep in. It was wonderful. I got to that point I remember as a boy during harvest time when the air is chilly and your hands, feet, and legs start to get a little numb. It's then that if you have a hat on, you're good for the rest of the day (or night) to stay outside, not really feeling the cold. It got that way for me and it was wonderful!

We even ate at an outside grill place! But that's a different post for you to read.
