FRIDAY - Large institutional buildings have coat-check counters here. Something I don't see much in the states. I saw them at both art museums we visited so far.
Our guide explained that women who work at these counters live off the tips they can generate here as their only income from this job. Most are middle-aged or older women who likely have few employment options.
So many people here are largely focused on finding a way to pay for the food they and their families will need that day. It makes me appreciate the pluck and determination an entire culture makes to get out of bed every day and do what they must do again and again.
