There was a little chocolate store attached to the factory and Muskovites in the know, know that chocolate is the least expensive bought right from the chocolate store there. Like everything else, chocolate is pricey in Moscow.
After Bill did his best to explain to the very patient counter people that I was looking for caramels, I tried several interesting chocolate candies that I've not seen in the west. They were variations on a thin candy coating around a nougat or a ground nut product that was thing draped in wonderful dark chocolate. Wasn't the caramel I was looking for, but was fun stuff to try!
There were also fruit filled chocolates with things in them you'd probably not see in the US like gooseberries, and giant chocolate wafter bars (think huge Little Debbie Nutty Bar, but with crisp, perfectly tempered dark chocolate).

It was pretty fun to see and taste, and thank goodness Bill was there to save my ass again with his excellent Russian.
